How do we know what’s true? How do scientists, inventors, and investigators answer life’s biggest questions?

Curious Minds is an interactive, 4-week online program that transforms curious kids into independent thinkers and young researchers. Designed for ages 8–15, this hands-on course teaches students how to ask powerful questions, evaluate information, conduct simple investigations, and present their findings clearly—all while building practical vocabulary and confidence in an interactive setting!

• Target Audience: Ages 8–15

• Duration: 4 Weeks

• Time Commitment: 1.5 Hours per week (Live online interactive class)

• Prerequisites: No prior research experience needed!

Learning Objectives

By the end of this 4-week workshop, students will be able to:

1. Ask Deep, Investigable Questions: Formulate open-ended questions using the “5 Ws and H” (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How) that go beyond simple facts.

2. Evaluate & Verify Information: Distinguish between reliable sources and opinion, bias, or fake news using age-appropriate evaluation techniques.

3. Organize & Analyze Data: Gather information from articles, observations, or surveys and organize thoughts using simple graphic organizers.

4. Synthesize & Present Findings: Summarize research into a 2-minute oral presentation using clear visuals or slides.

5. Develop Academic & Critical Thinking Skills: Apply problem-solving, active listening, and structured reasoning in collaborative group discussions.

Weekly Breakdown (4-Week Snapshot)

Week 1: The Detective Mindset – Asking Great Questions

• What is research, and why does curiosity matter?

• The difference between “thin” (simple fact) and “thick” (deep inquiry) questions.

• Mini-Challenge: Choosing an inquiry topic and crafting 3 core research questions.

Week 2: Fact vs. Fiction – Finding Reliable Answers

• How to search for truth safely on the internet and in books.

• Identifying trustworthy sources vs. rumors or opinions.

• Mini-Challenge: The “Fake News Challenge”—spotting real vs. misleading statements!

Week 3: Gathering & Organizing Your Findings

• Taking notes without copying word-for-word (avoiding plagiarism made simple).

• Using mind maps, charts, and simple organizers to structure information.

• Mini-Challenge: Creating a visual “Knowledge Map” of their chosen topic.

Week 4: The Discovery Showcase – Presenting Your Insights

• How to present complex information clearly and confidently.

• 2-minute student presentations on their inquiry topic.

• Celebration, peer feedback, and graduation certificates!

Note for Parents: This free pilot program gives your child a preview of essential academic and life skills—critical thinking, media literacy, and public speaking. At the end of the 4 weeks, we will collect student reflections and parent reviews to help refine our full 1-year Inquiry & Research curriculum!
